Nnnrgh. Things are incredibly busy at work, because our once-per-decade on-site accreditation review is next week. Also, I've been assigned as the escort to one of the accreditors, yaaaaaay. (I'd love for it to be this time next Thursday, kthnx.)
Edit: Please note that this new version is an attempt to fix the problems of the original meme. However, I cannot claim that I have made a perfect solution. Please feel free to contribute suggestions and share criticisms here, or to simply change the meme when you use it. Also, I hope this can be used as a springboard for new, more improved versions. Please refer to this post for a more thorough discussion.
For those who want it, here's an alternate version of the sex meme, hopefully more interesting and free of damaging assumptions. Co-written by me, lunapome (LJ), laylah, ratzeo, puella_nerdii, and mahokiwi.
Please share as you see fit. If there are any glaring errors or problems, feel free to comment and I'll fix them.
Many people have pointed out that the sex question meme is in serious need of revision, so let's try revising it. I was going to be ambitious and do it all myself (HUBRIS, I HAZ IT), but then I realized it would be both better and more fun if it were a group effort.
By way of explanation, here are some of the problems that were raised about the meme:
- Heterocentric questions ("we know everyone is straight so have you done anything REALLY WEIRD like kiss someone of the same sex 'cause that's WEIRD"). - The questions just aren't that interesting, because they ask "have you done _____" instead of "why do you like _____" or "what's the best way you've found to _____." - The preponderence of "have you done _____" questions give off a "tee hee, sex is so naughty and you're naughty if you like it!" vibe.
I could really use some positive thinking today. *insert work-griping here* So let's do a positive-thinking meme:
Leave me a comment and I will reply with why I like you. If I don't know you, I'll either make something up or tell you why I like your LiveJournalblog. You must pay for the privilege by posting a message like this one on your LiveJournalblog.
I haven't been blogging as much as I used to, so I think this would be fun.
Everyone has things they blog about. Everyone has things they don't blog about. Challenge me out of my comfort zone by telling me something I don't blog about, but you'd like to hear about, and I'll write a post about it. Ask for anything: latest movie watched, last book read, political leanings, thoughts on yaoi, favorite type of underwear, graphic techniques, etc. Repost in your own journal so that we can all learn more about each other.
shadawyn and mimerki both posted this meme, and it seems like a good idea: list 6 things that have recently made you happy.
So I'm taking a moment away from the deadline crunch in order to remind myself of things that have been good lately.
1. Last night I got to hang out at lunapome and music_enforcer's apartment, where they carved pumpkins and ratzeo and zinjadu and I ate candy.
2. The deadline I mentioned is because of a new responsibility at work, which furthers my goal of participating in recruiting and admissions. (Vague, I know; I'm just not sure how much I should blather about such matters on an unlocked post.) It's a little intimidating, but I'm glad to learn; plus, I'm pleased that my supervisors trust me with taking this on.
3. I have been eating so much chocolate lately because of Halloween. XD
4. shadawyn will be running her game this Saturday, and ratzeo will be running his on Sunday.
5. The end of Daylight Saving Time! I love getting to sleep in. 8D
Here's the problem with LJ: we all think that we're so close, but we really know nothing about each other. I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about.
Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you.
Comment here and I will tell you what I think of you, honestly, no lies.
I should have the time to answer this while I'm at work, because I think it'll be a slow day. Also, it's one of the last days of my boss's vacation, so I'm doing it now before she comes back and I feel guilty. ^^;
If you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now, even if we don't speak often, please post a comment with a memory of you and me. It can be anything you want -- good or bad. When you're finished, post this little paragraph on your blog and be surprised (or mortified!) about what people remember about you.
One of the people in the office I work at is a fantastic baker (not to mention a very sweet woman). Today, for our receptionist's birthday, she baked a chocolate peppermint cake. :D~~ She also asked me when my birthday was (most people don't know since it happens over winter break and I'm not at work then), and then what my preferences for desserts are.
I think I might be getting a treat for my birthday. :o This probably shouldn't make me so happy, except that this woman's desserts really are that delicious. :D Plus it's really cool that I merit a birthday treat, since I am a student employee and not a "real" co-worker. ^^;
I've been at work for an hour, but I keep staring out the window and checking weather sites for updates about the evening storm that (supposedly) will bring a fresh batch of snow tonight. Here's hoping it holds off until I get home.
Of course, that means that I haven't been getting much actual work done because I can't concentrate. So what better solution was there but to do a meme?
Am writing first philosophy paper for the quarter. Have not written philosophy papers in almost two years. Augh augh augh.
When speaking of a hypothetical situation in which a nation denies women the right to vote, would it be wrong to give the hypothetical nation the name "Wimmin Suxx0rs"? Y/N.
